Our Woodland Learning provision is aimed at learners unable to effectively access mainstream schooling. Equally those who need a more creative, nurturing approach to learning or simply those who need a well-being intervention to help them sustain their school placement.

Your child is at the heart of our work and we look forward to being part of your child’s education journey.  As a starting point, we like to glean as much information as we can from you about your young person, after all, you know them better than anyone.  We like to find out where they are now, their likes/dislikes and whether or not they will wear wellies so we can think about how to help them best enjoy the woods.  Also so we can put thought into ways to engage them and get them excited about coming to their sessions.

Learning is delivered by our talented team and takes place in a natural space which has been thoroughly risk assessed. Each programme of sessions is tailored to the individual and their specific learning needs for example, if your child likes building and making, we will incorporate this. Woodland Tutors  also design activities based around your child’s Individual Learning Plan which is their bespoke set of aims we put together for them. We base these aims upon EHCP targets but also listen to your views on any specific outcomes you’d like us to work towards. These aims may be therapeutic or academic or both.  After each session, tutors will evaluate sessions  to track progress which feeds into the overall programme evaluation written by the programme coordiantor. The report is shared with you so you can read about what we’ve been up to and see how your child is doing.

Sessions are a half day (2 hours, morning or afternoon) or a full day (5 hours, includes lunch) and we accept learners for up to 10 hours per week. Programmes are a minimum of 3 weeks but we also accept longer term placements if your child is out of school waiting for a school place. We are a term time only provision and our core hours are between 9am  and 3pm. We don’t take responsibility for transport but our coordinators can support you through the process of applying for county transport if you need.
